NEW for fall 2022! Delegation and Assigning Accountability: Front-Line Leadership Skills

Course description

When a star employee is appointed to their first leadership position, they are suddenly expected to know how to delegate tasks, how to monitor others, how to create accountability, and what to do if team members are not performing effectively. This can be a challenging transition without a clear framework for establishing the new managerial behaviours that are required to support the team’s success. This Three-week course provides new leaders with a framework and practical tools that enhance their ability to assign tasks and develop the employees who report to them. You’ll learn practical concepts to help you foster a culture of accountability within your team.

Learning objectives

  • Understand behaviours of a highly engaged and empowered employee.

  • Learn and practice the steps in effective delegation using a proven checklist.

  • Move beyond “just get it done” thinking to intentional delegation that provides growth opportunities for team members.

  • Learn how to set up effective monitoring systems that integrates personal monitoring with written reports and reading stats.

  • Identify situations when an employee needs positive and constructive feedback and use a consistent framework to provide it.

  • Create a culture of accountability within the team.

  • Address accountability issues in one-on-one conversations using a four-step assertive formula.

New managers and employees who may become managers within 12 months

Course format

  • Three 90-minute facilitated sessions, delivered online

New students

Registering with COAST only takes a few simple steps.  

  1. Fill out the sign-up form. 

  2. You will receive a verification email with a link. Click on the link to access your account. 

  3. Go to the main dashboard and find the Ministry form. 

  4. Download it, fill it out, save it, and upload the saved and completed form in the Upload tab. 

  5. You will receive a confirmation email that it has been accepted (this may take up to two business days). Once that is done you may enrol in the courses of your choosing. 

  6. To enrol, select the Catalog tile on the dashboard and choose your course dates and times.

Returning students

Go to and log in with your credentials. Check the Catalog tile on the main dashboard to find this course. Select it and click Enrol.

Employers— Enhance and upgrade employee skills. Recognize and foster employee development. Enrol your company with COAST! Your company may register employees on any of the courses offered at no charge – as long as courses are completed by March 15, 2023.


PLEASE NOTE: Registration is not considered complete unless OAC receives the completed Ministry participation form.

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) requires you to complete their PDF Participant Form prior to entering the training program. This information is for reporting purposes only, is anonymized prior to reporting and will be held in confidence.
