Problem-Solving

Course description

As automation eliminates many simpler and more straightforward tasks, your work requirements are becoming increasingly complex and ambiguous. On top of that, global competition is driving demand for more innovative and creative solutions. In this course, you’ll develop your ability to come up with solutions and decisions when faced with uncertainty on the job, and you’ll learn strategies to correctly assess situations and execute effective solutions.

Learning objectives

  • Develop the right mindset as a first step to problem-solving.

  • Determine your preferred thinking styles, and learn how to develop other styles to help you with problem-solving.

  • Define five characteristic weaknesses that inhibit innovative and creative problem-solving.

  • Learn how to use questions to solve problems.

  • Discover strategies to engage the brain and jolt your thinking.

Course format

  • Two 90-minute facilitated online sessions

  • Small classes (10-12 trainees)

Register and complete your course by March 15, 2023 and your course fee will be $0.

New students

Registering with COAST only takes a few simple steps.  

  1. Fill out the sign-up form. 

  2. You will receive a verification email with a link. Click on the link to access your account. 

  3. Go to the main dashboard and find the Ministry form. 

  4. Download it, fill it out, save it, and upload the saved and completed form in the Upload tab. 

  5. You will receive a confirmation email that it has been accepted (this may take up to two business days). Once that is done you may enrol in the courses of your choosing. 

  6. To enrol, select the Catalog tile on the dashboard and choose your course dates and times.

Returning students

Go to oac.myabsorb.com and log in with your credentials. Check the Catalog tile on the main dashboard to find this course. Select it and click Enrol.

Employers— Enhance and upgrade employee skills. Recognize and foster employee development. Enrol your company with COAST! Your company may register employees on any of the courses offered at no charge – as long as courses are completed by March 15, 2023.

 

PLEASE NOTE: Registration is not considered complete unless OAC receives the completed Ministry participation form.

The Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development (MLTSD) requires you to complete their PDF Participant Form prior to entering the training program. This information is for reporting purposes only, is anonymized prior to reporting and will be held in confidence.
